Dead Pop Stars

This is how your white mother dances after she’s had two glasses of wine, isn’t it. It’s so goddamn embarrassing I find it hard to look at. Singer Clare Grogan of Altered Images, that’s what this eighties band is called, does it with a little more grace here, but she’s still one of the worst dancers I ever saw.

Anyway, this song turned up on my iPod (which I always have in shuffle mode) the day it became known Prince had died, and with all the losses us pop fans have had to endure these past few months, it seemed kind of fitting to post it. Just because of the title, the lyrics are not about the Great who have fallen, but about faded pop stars desperately trying to make their come-backs.

It’s a nice, sarcastic song by a nice band. Grogan, by the way, became one of those has-beens she sings about herself. (PB)
