Happy Easter with Kyary Pamyu Pamyu
You want Easter eggs, here’s your damn Easter eggs. Thousands of them, more than you can shake a stick at. Because in Japan they do respect traditions! Even if they don’t have a clue what they’re about.
That said, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (she was featured on this site earlier), a sort of crossing between a J-Pop idol and a character from a Ghibli anime, does a word play here that suggests she knows at least part of the origin story of Easter.
She sings ‘ii start’ (pronounce ‘e-start’, which sounds like ‘Easter’. ‘Ii start’ means ‘good start’. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu wishes us all a good new start with Easter, the spring celebration, which is the start of a new harvest year.
For the rest this is of course complete rubbish, but it’s very enjoyable rubbish. (PB)
