From Lebanon: Yasmine Hamdan
Will definitely turn up somewhere on my list of favorite albums at the end of this year: ‘Al Jamilat‘ by Lebanese singer Yasmine Hamdan. I would never have heard of her if it wasn’t for the excellent Beehype, introducing me to the hidden gems all over the world, even my own country.
Powerful video too, that woman struggling for her right to be in a space completely filled by those fat, stoic, complacent men, who are always everywhere filling up all the rooms, occupying every spot.
The album is quite wonderful. Melodic, sad and dreamy, weird at times. I absolutely very highly recommend it. (PB)
