Nakigao Tsuinteeru: four noisy grrrls from Kyushu

Nakigao Tsuinteeru (泣き顔ツインテール, ‘Cry Face Twintail’) is quite the opposite of the last band featured in this column, Chai. In fact, the members of Nakigao Tsuinteeru seem to be on the run in this video for exactly the kind of neo-kawainess propagated by Chai.

They’re from Kyushu, which is in the tropical south of Japan and their first mini-album has been released by Call and Response, music journalist Ian Martin’s record label.

Ian Martin, quite the talent scout in the Japanese Indie scene, brought the best of the best of today’s indie scene together on one compilation album: Throw away your CD’s and go to a show, a reference to the cinematic work of genius by Shûji Terayama, Throw away your books, rally in the streets.

Featured on the album is Nakigao Tsuinteeru but also P-iPLE, Otori, The Noup, Panicsmile and much more. (PB)
