September’s here again
It’s a shame David Sylvian never made a video to accompany the intro of his classic album Secrets from the Beehive, released 31 years ago. Many people seem to think so, because on YouTube fans put the music of September to their own compilation of images. The video above is one example. It will have to do.
September perfectly catches the mood of each first of September, when the inescapable truth nestles itself in our consciousness: another summer has passed, the world will be drained of all warmth and colour now and everything will be this monotonous, joyless drag until at least next April.
Luckily there is art to lift us up or to at least make us feel less lonesome. To chase some of the chill from our bones and brighten the dark mornings and the somber evenings.
Secrets from the Beehive, one of my favorite albums of all time. I can never get enough of it. So romantic, such beautiful music and slightly elusive poetry, an impressionistic masterpiece from a musician who seems to be forgotten.
Maybe because his music doesn’t fit the current trend of grim aggressiveness. (PB)
