Damnably good music by Kawana Yuki
I said it before and I’ll say it again: long live the YouTube algorithms! Without them, I’d be missing out on loads of indy music gems. Take Kawana Yuki, for instance. Keyboardist of the Japanese indy band Yucca, who brought out a solo album in 2008, ‘secret plans of a special artisan‘, from which the song in the newly released video originates.
I liked the song so much, Kawana’s slightly coarse but charming voice, the melody, the Breeders-like music, that I purchased the album immediately. You can do so also, here at Bandcamp’s. It’s a really good album.
Kawana’s label is UK-based Damnably, which has other notable artists under its wing, like Shonen Knife and Otoboke Beaver, which was chosen as the best act of last year by visitors of Dutch music venue Vera (Groningen).
To get a good idea of the music Damnably brings out, there is this compilation of Damnably artists, completely free! It’s quite a good album and a nice way to get acqainted with some really good but still little known bands and artists. (PB)
