Jockstrap
Jockstrap reminds me of The Dresden Dolls, the band Amanda Palmer used to be part of, or still is, I don’t know. This is because Jockstrap, a London-based duo, is very white in all its aspects, but also becasuse they combine all kinds of pop and rock with folk music and mime and theatre. They seem to reach back to the same sources David Bowie used to when he started: folk, musicals, theatre and the Berlin nightclubs of the Interbellum.
Jockstrap exists since 2018, they have a new album out, I Love You Jennifer B, about which I haven’t made my mind up yet. It’s pleasant enough, but the song Concrete over Water really stands out as an intricate piece of enchanting beauty. A sort of crossing between Kate Bush and early Bowie. (PB)
