Sassy 009; beautiful but scary as hell
Sassy 009 is a Norwegian act. It started as a trio, now it’s just one member, Sunniva Lindgård. She makes pleasant dance music, nothing earth-shaking. When I first heard it I thought it was typical Brit-pop.
The track above is a remix by British producer Vegyn, he adds a layer, or rather layers to the original. They give it a spookiness, an ethereal strangeness, invigorates the motive “I’m not a psycho, just a little annoyed”.
It digs into my own deep-rooted fear of white people. I’m white people myself but I’ve always been a little scared of other white people. Of course they fascinate me as well.
This Sassy 009 has everything that scares and fascinates me about white folks. I think she looks strange and she (or rather her persona in the song) has that, I don’t know, creepy, compelling friendliness that they have and that you can’t refuse. Somehow they’re open about their bad intentions but they make you feel it would be rude to not let them hurt you in ways you couldn’t imagine.
In the Netherlands, this is called “gezelligheid“.
