Convex Level; eighties-esque desperation from Japan
Well, it’s a pretty shitty video of course, but don’t you just love that Police-like song, that mix of reggae and new wave, the eighties-esque, jumpy desperation resonating in the melody and the way of singing?
Convex Level had a new album out last year, donotcl, that I do not know except for two tracks they give away for free on their website.
The above song, Ashy Sleep, is my favorite and Tokyo based music writer Ian Martin puts it third in his top-20 of favorite albums of 2014 and from what I’ve heard so far, it sounds pretty good so I think I am going to include the album with the next batch I’m ordering from Amazon Japan.
