The Blue Hearts are the Japanese Ramones
Have you ever heard of The Blue Hearts? They’re from the eighties and they’re like the Japanese Ramones. They don’t seem too bright, they’re music is really very simple but it’s fun. The Blue Hearts always seem to be categorized as punk and the band’s attitude is subversive, but with catchy tunes like that and the humour of it all I don’t know. It’s more like easy listening but noisier. One of their albums is on number three in Rolling Stone Japan’s list of 100 best Japanese albums of all time.
There’s a great Japanese movie by Nobuhiro Yamashita, named after The Blue Hearts‘ biggest hit, ‘Linda Linda Linda‘, which is the song above. It’s about a group of Japanese schoolgirls performing songs by The Blue Hearts. Here they perform ‘Linda Linda Linda‘.
The Ramones, the real ones, make a cameo appearance in the movie. To me it’s one of the most touching scenes in any movie ever. It makes my eyes moist. It does. It’s a bit blurry, unfortunately.
