Hana Mash Hu Al Yaman
May I suggest a slightly different summer hit this year than the usual fare? Not only is this song hard to keep sitting still to, it’s about something. And as simple as these lines are, I find them among the most moving I’ve come across for a long time:
I came to you fleeing
You saw me as a primitive
I came to you fleeing
I saw you as my last resort
I had never heard of these three sisters from Israel, Tair, Liron and Tagel Haim, better known as A-WA, whose great-grandmother was a refugee from Yemen and who had a succesful album out a couple of years ago, Habib Galbi.
Their second album is due at the end of this month, and this is the first track from it. (PB)
