This is a really good, groovy song by kiki vivi lily and SUKISHA
Summer is coming so expect a lot of jazz and bossa nova and city pop on this spot these coming months. Today I present a new discovery of mine, kiki vivi lily. Well, actually it was YouTube recommending this to me, based on my music taste and I must say, YouTube’s algorithm works better for me than Spotify’s or iTune’s because it keeps coming up with things I find genuinely interesting.
kiki vivi lily is this lady’s name (here she poses in front of Aladdin Sane) and the song is a collaboration with SUKISHA whose real name is Hiroyuki Ikezawa, a singer/songwriter like kiki and his tunes are none too shabby either. In fact I like kiki’s collaborations with him (here’s another one) better than her solo work, which is nice, but a little bit cruder. She had an EP out three years ago and it’s on Spotify so you go judge for yourself.
Blue in Green, the song in the video above, is nearly perfect for it’s smoothness, grooviness, slightly melancholic cheerfulness and the almost psychedelic intermezzo around the third minute.
The video is pretty brilliant too, with kiki walking around in her dark apartment, presumably during twilight, my favorite time of day, cutting fish, making a chermoula or a bumbu, staring at her bathtub where she, I don’t know, breeds those fish or keeps the little mermaid prisoner. It’s all very strange. (PB)
