A song to honor João Gilberto, who died last week

A week ago the father of bossa nova, João Gilberto, died. I can’t let that go unnoticed, for bossa nova might be my favorite music genre, in the sense that I’m literally always in the mood for a good bossa nova song. It soothes me and calms me down and makes a better person of me.

So I went and looked for a nice video by Gilberto and found this performance by him and his daughter Bebel. She looks to be sixteen or something here, so this must be from the early eighties.

Bossa Nova is the ideal summer music, so I’m adding it to my Summer Mixtape as well. Thank you Mr. Gilberto, for one of the greatest inventions in human history. I don’t think you will be quickly forgotten. I’m pretty sure songs like Girl of Ipanema and Insensatez will be played until the end of the universe, in interstellar bars a zillion lightyears from earth, a million years from now. (PB)
