Ÿuma: romantic folk-pop from Tunisia
I discovered a new band I like. It’s a duo from Tunisia, Ÿuma. This is not their best video, this is, but I like this song the most, because of the understated drama in the melody and their way of singing.
I also like the sound of their Arabic. I don’t speak Arabic, but I recognize different accents, more or less. Well, I can hear it when it’s not Moroccan Arabic.
The woman is Sabrine Jenhani and the guy, who looks like a Greek hero, like Odysseus, is Rami Zoghlemi. You can listen to their latest album here. Three songs is enough for me, then I crave for something a little more subversive, but it’s nice. (PB)
