Some subversive noise from Japan: the Orokamono Club

Time for some subversive noise to match the oppressive heat wearing us down at the moment on several levels.

Totally missed the new mini album the Orokamono Club had out last year, available on iTunes.

The Orokamono Club is now a one-female band consisting of guitarist/singer Hitomi. The name, which means ‘Fools Club’, is a reference to something Kurt Cobain’s mother seems to have said about rock stars dying at the the age of 27.

The sound is something that seems to be popular with the all female bands in the Japanese indie music scene, where rasping guitars, a throbbing bass and militaristic drums often back the sighing, sometimes angelic voices of the singers. Akabane Vulgars’ Yumi Uchizono with her low, heavy voice being an exception of course.

Check Orokamono Club’s website and listen to some tunes on YouTube. I posted a song here earlier, which is still my favorite. (PB)
