The best British bands are from Japan: Ykiki Beat

The name ‘Ykiki Beat’ evokes images of tanned guys playing sixtiesish steel-guitar on a tropical beach, but Ykiki Beat is from some industrial town near the rocky shores of Northern England or so this band would have believe.

However, despite the impressive English accent singer Nobuki Akiyama (not a very English-sounding name, now is it?) sports and the sound of Ykiki Beat, reminiscent of the English, Irish and Scottish rock-bands which flourished in the eighties in the wake of U2, this band is – I bet you guessed it – from Tokyo, Japan.

With bands like The Paellas, The Fin. and Ykiki Beat I’d say the best British indie hails from Japan nowadays, made by red-blooded Japanese.

Ykiki Beat has a new album out, downloadable on iTunes (yes, in Europe too) or, if you want a hard-copy, for instance here.
