Tokyo Groove Jyoshi, hot women playing hot funk

Few things are sexier than a bunch of hot women playing some hot and groovy funk. My best pal and me used to listen to this music all the time in the eighties. We called it Jazz Rock, a term that inflamed Jazz purists. “Fusion” was a term I heard a lot at the time. Anyway, anything with a heavy bass and a jazzy groove rocked our boat, especially Japanese band Casiopea.

It so happens that the bass player of Tokyo Groove Jyoshi, Juna Serita (whom I trust you all have noticed in the video above) learned her trade from Sakurai Tetsuo, the former bass player of Casiopea. And she learned well, you will agree. Here, check her slappin’ that bass.

Tokyo Groove Jyoshi reminds me of The Crusaders, who scored a hit in 1979 with Randy Crawford, Street Life. One of the best songs ever. The album Street Life is a masterpiece too.
