Groovy, funky, jazzy and very original music by Cero from Tokyo
Earlier this year Tokyo based band Cero brought out a new album, E O, and it’s beautiful. Cero mixes funk and easy listening with jazz into smooth but multi-layered music. They’re very accomplished musicians who know how to write a melody and how to compose an original song. This is very rare in their niche of pop music, where often the same repetitive formats are followed, resulting in disposable pop.
Cero’s songs are very intricate, combing polyrythms with close harmony against a backdrop of perfect musical arrangements. Very atmospheric and very sexy. Not immediately dance floor material, but also hard to keep still with. Their before-last album Poly Life Multi Soul ended up high on my list of favorites in 2018. I can’t believe it’s five years old already, I still listen to it a lot. I am really surprised these guys are not famouser than they are.
