A four minute summer vacation in Japan
The song is nice, right? It’s called ‘Finale’ and the artist is Eill, whom I know little about. It’s the video I’m enthousiastic about.
I miss Japan, especially Japan in the summer. The heat is murderous, but the atmosphere, there’s nothing like it, better than Christmas. I miss the deafening songs of the cicadas, the cold sobas, the cold green tea and oshibori (those small hot towels) you get in every restaurant or café you enter, the overwhelming abundance of nature, hysterical almost, an explosion of leaves and flowers and giant insects colliding with the windows of the restaurant you’re enjoying your kamosoba in. I miss the smells, the festivals, the young couples in their summer kimonos (yukata), octopus balls, grilled fish on a stick, salty lychee drink, the best! The fireworks, the shaved ice.
It’s all in this video, containing scenes from a movie that premiered two weeks ago in Japan, The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes. The video is a four minute summer vacation in Japan. (PB)
