Disarming dream-pop by Emerald Four

No nifty video this time, just a picture of the sleeve of the new album by Emerald Four, so you can concentrate wholly on the music. Emerald Four would have you believe they’re a band of four people but it really just consists of one, namely Daisuke Adachi. At least she’s the only one left. I think she produces her music in her bedroom, or at her kitchen table, at home, in any case.

Makyō nite is the name of her new album, which means “into the demon realm” and it contains eight songs which sound like a mix of rock ‘n’ roll, crooner music and bubble gum pop. Ima, the song above, is my favorite. It sounds girl-like, naive and a little sad and nostalgic. It’s totally disarming. And it’s just a very well-written song, well executed.

It’s released by Tanukineiri Records, which I have written about before, it’s the side activity of a pottery company, a label with some really great Japanese indie bands and artists on its name. Do check it out. One of their greatest albums, and I mean really astonishingly beautiful, is Shinnosuke Sugata’s Hikari me maimasezu tomo. As far as I’m concerned.
