Power to the native people with Supaman and Maimouna Youssef

The footage of confrontations of Native Americans (and other indiginous people) with the police in this video makes me so angry. Almost 600 years the rights of Native Americans are trampled upon by white Europeans and their descendants and still the fascist governments of the Americas are not done robbing Native Americans of everything they have, even their dignity.

Anyway, there seems to be a renaissance of Native American resistance against the oppressors in many different forms, from protest demonstrations which are often violently suppressed by the authorities, to artistic expressions like the music of Frank Waln en the maker of the video above, Christian Parrish Takes the Gun alias Supaman.

Supaman teams up here with rapper Maimouna Youssef, who is of Choctaw, Creek, Cherokee and African American heritage to show the world the protests may have lost the attention of the media at the moment, but are still alive and kicking. They also express solidarity with the people in Gaza, Palestine and Egypt.

This track is from Supaman’s latest album, Illuminatives, which is definitely one of the best albums of the year. (PB)
