The Male Gaze: feminist punk from the Philippines

From the land of sexist, homophobic nazi Rodrigo Duterte comes this great feminist band The Male Gaze fighting for the good cause by way of loud and energetic garage punk with a poppy twist.

The band is still young and was formed in 2018. Lead singer Mich Dulce is a hugely succesfull fashion designer whose clients include Lady Gaga, Anna Dello Russo, Paris Hilton, Paloma Faith and Shingai Shoniwa (it says so here).

In this CNN interview she says how she learned about feminism through music, through the Riot Grrl movement and bands like Bikini Kill and El Tigre. “I wasn’t born woke and lived in a bubble for such a long time; it was only through my love of music that I became a feminist.” Yay!

Last year music critic and producer Ian Martin, based in Japan, teamed the band up with Tokyoite noise band P-iPLE for a split-EP called The Boss of Me /Oh, My Goodness!, available through here. (PB)
