Latest Tricot album ‘Jodeki’ is overwhelming and irresistable
Somehow I missed that math-rock band Tricot released new album last year (in December), ‘Jodeki‘. They also plan to tour through Europe this coming fall, and I want tickets.
Because Jodeki is fantastic. To be honest I was losing interest in Tricot a little, a band I was raving about when I discovered it. They have been bringing out albums of consistent quality, never changing their style and the way they built up their songs, which became a little predictable and boring.
There’s still not a wholly different approach on Jodeki, but the songs are so well written and composed, so intricately arranged, with such catchy melodies, juicy riffs and compelling rythms, such overwhelming energy, it’s just irresistable. These women (and one male drummer) take their composing seriously, I mean this is really a kind of Bach, with everything placed precisely where it belongs, the melodies are like church song melodies, but fast and agressive. But Tricot never forgets making it fun. Because however intelligently this is made, it’s pop rock, after all. Freaky, mind-expanding, amazing pop-rock.
And when the twelve songs on the album are over, the fun starts anew with the instrumental versions of each songs, adding a new and exciting dimension to the whole thing.
So in short: I vehemently urge you to make today an extra fun day and give Jodeki a listen. Unless your country is being invaded by evil imperialist forces of course, in which case I wish you courage and lots of luck. Give those bastards hell. Jodeki may give you just the vibe you need, though. (PB)
