Batman Winks Gud Pops
I have a weak spot for Batman Winks, because the band is so weird. At first listen they may seem to just mess around, just skimping on their instruments, but when you let the music happen to you, when you go with the flow, you’ll discover it’s all very deep and arty and experimental and new, different. These guys are on to something. Don’t know what, but something.
Batman Winks belongs to the Setagaya category of Tokyo indie bands, at least according to music journalist Ian Martin. The other category are the Chuo Line bands. The punky, rocky Chuo Line bands (Chuo Line is a Tokyo metro line) apparently attract a male audience mainly, an electronic experimental weirdo Setagaya band (Setagaya is a ward in Tokyo) like Batman Winks appeals more to women. Hey, I’m not saying that, Ian Martin is.
Batman Winks, I introduced them to you a while ago when I thought it was just one guy, has a new album out, the second already this year, but you may only purchase it when you visit a gig by the band, which is on tour in Japan right now together with Ykiki Beat, which I recommended last week.
Here’s another song from the new album, which is called Gud Pops.(PB)
