‘One Blood‘, touching statement against racism by Supaman and friends
‘I wanna see my sisters rise, I wanna see my brothers shine.
Some of us are blinded by colour, some of us are colour blind.
All nations, all races, gotta stay risin’ above.’
‘We check a box as if a culture can be summarized.
But what if I dont fit inside those boxes that you judge me by?’
‘If everyone’s sharing the same planet how can you label a human an immigrant?’
Some strong lyrics from hip-hop artist Andrew Martinez aka Wake Self in collaboration with Christian Parrish Takes the Gun aka Supaman and reggae musician Andres Estrada aka Dre Z.
‘One Blood’ is featured on Supaman’s 2018 album Illuminatives, one of my favorite albums of that year. The video was recorded at the time but never released and Supaman drops it now as a comment to the current uprising in the US, but also to honour his friend Wake Self, who was killed late last year by a drunk driver.
