A little horror to go with your new Tricot album
Don’t you just love Halloween? Well, I don’t give a shit that you don’t, I love it and that’s what counts. I love Tricot too, the math-rock band from Kyoto I’ve been enthousiastically promoting since their first demo. And apparently the Tricot ladies love Halloween also, judging from their new video which is full of horror tropes, just in time for the season!
This song is called ‘Itazura‘, which means ‘prank’ or ‘mischief’ and I’m not even going to pretend I understand what the lyrics are about, something about a slightly weird person missing her sweetheart.
The song is taken from yet another new Tricot album, called 10, which is the second album they’ve brought out this year. I’m tempted to churn out some cliches about those dilligent Japanese always working hard but Tricot does work hard, and what’s more, they keep up the same constant quality. 10 contains a bunch of well-written and smoothly executed songs.
As expected. Which Is meant as a hint of criticism because there’s nothing dangerous on this album, nothing risky. Just ten good songs that are pleasing to the ear. I wouldn’t mind if the band began to experiment a little more. Anyway, judge for yourself. Enjoy! (PB)
