Quruli: Beatle-esque complexity. With horns

Quruli has been around since the nineties and last year they released their thirteenth album, The Pier, from which the above song, Liberty & Gravity, was taken. I think it’s an apt title for a song which is both so complex, with many twists and intermezzos and at the same time keeps it lighthearted and very easily accessible.

The entire album is like this, almost a concept album, somewhat Beatle-esque, but maybe I am just saying that because of the sitar on Liberty & Gravity and the folksy influences. And there are horns. I love it when there are horns on a pop album.

The video was made by the same guy responsible for the grotesque weirdness on Kyari Pamyu Pamyu’s Pon Pon Pon video. Not to everybody’s liking, but it appeals to me. (PB)
