Towa Tei with Kaho
Lately I’m on a journey of discovery through the music of Japanese DJ and producer Towa Tei, whom I knew of course from the super smash hit Groove Is In The Heart by Deee-Lite, that was 1990, when I was a second year student. Anyway, I never payed much attention to him until recently, when I heard his album Sound Museum, so versatile and exciting I’m currently checking out all his other work. His music is rich and eclectic and cosmopolitan, with contrubutions by musicians from all over the world. It ranges from Indonesian folklore to American Hip-hop, electronic dance music and ambient, Towa Tei is everything.
So this here video is a co-operation with actress and fashion model Indo Kaho, or just Kaho, afine actress I recently saw in a couple of great movies, like Shape of Red and Mother.
It’s just one example of what Towa Tei does but all his music has this in common: it’s intricately composed ear-candy that’s both easily accessible and multi-layered. If you’re not familiar with him, check him out. (PB)
