Otori: the Rachmaninov of post-punk-noise-rock (I don’t know how I come up with these silly comparisons)

One of my favorite bands at the moment, Otori, finally uploaded some footage of one of their live gigs on YouTube. I embedded a video before, but that was quickly removed since Otori seems to want absolute control of what we get to see.

That’s why I am a little disappointed with this registration, because both the sound quality and the filming is pretty bad. Pity, because now we hardly get to hear the bass-player, who has an incredible part in this song, just dancing on the strings with his fingers at break-neck speed.

It still is a fascinating video though, not in the least because of the audience, which seems to consist not of a mass of enthusiastic fans but of a large group of individuals careful not to interact with each-other let alone touch each-other while enjoying the music.

Anyway, their debut album I wanna be your noise was my favorite album of 2014 and I highly recommend it if you like your music aggressive and energetic and brainy and complicated. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be available at any European record store. You’ll have to import it from Japan. Otori is the Rachmaninov of post-punk-noise-rock. I hope I get to see them when I’m in Tokyo later this year.
